Zodiac MX8 Automatic Pool Cleaner

The MX8 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and replaced by the Zodiac AX20 Activ, which is the current model in this part of the range. If you already own an MX8 we can still help with parts, servicing and accessories while stock remains. If you are buying new, talk to us about the AX20 Activ.

The Zodiac AX20 Activ. It fills the same role: a suction cleaner that connects to your skimmer box and runs off your existing filtration pump, with no separate motor or power supply, suiting concrete, pebblecrete, tile, fibreglass and vinyl surfaces. We can quote you on the AX20 Activ or on a robotic alternative if you would rather move away from suction cleaning.

In most cases yes. Zodiac products are well supported through the local supplier network and common wear parts such as tracks, seals and hoses generally remain available for some time after a model is discontinued. Bring your MX8 details to us and we will check parts availability before you decide whether to repair or replace.

It depends on what has failed and how old the unit is. Tracks, hoses and small wear parts are usually worth replacing. A worn out drive mechanism on an old unit generally is not, particularly when the AX20 Activ or a robotic cleaner would give you better results. Bring it in or send us photos and we will give you a straight answer.

It connects to your skimmer box and is powered entirely by the suction from your existing filtration pump. There is no separate motor, no power supply and nothing to charge. Debris is drawn through the hose and captured in your skimmer basket and filter, which is the main difference from a robotic cleaner that collects debris onboard.

All the debris passes through your pump basket and filter, so you backwash more often and your filtration works harder. They also need your pump running to operate, which ties cleaning to your pump schedule. Robotic cleaners avoid both issues, which is why many Auckland owners now choose them instead.

Yes, the Zodiac Cyclonic Scrubbing Kit is compatible with the MX8 and adds active scrubbing to the standard vacuuming action. It is available while trade stock remains. If you are getting good service from your MX8 and want better results on the pool surface, it is worth asking us about while it lasts.

It is worth considering. Robotic cleaners run independently of your pump, capture debris onboard rather than in your filter, and models such as the FR1000 iQ and EX6050 iQ clean walls and waterline as well as floors. We will compare the running cost and the practical difference against your current setup before you decide.
