Heat Retention Without the Cover

Most Auckland pool owners buy a solar cover, use it for one summer, and then stop. Not because it doesn't work — it does — but because dragging a wet cover on and off a pool is a job nobody wants to do twice a day, and a roller parked at the end of the pool is not what you had in mind when you designed the backyard. A liquid blanket solves the same problem from a different direction. It forms an invisible monolayer across the water surface that slows evaporation, and because evaporation is where most of a heated pool's energy goes, slowing it down typically reduces both your heating hours and your top-up water. You swim through it without noticing it's there, and your pool looks like a pool.

The results come down to dosing. Under-dose and the layer breaks up faster than it re-forms; over-dose and you're wasting product. Sparkling Pools sizes the system to your actual pool — surface area, whether it's heated and by what, how exposed it is to wind, and how hard it gets used — then installs an automatic dosing unit that meters the correct volume each day without you thinking about it. We wire and commission the unit, set the dose rate, and show you what to watch. If we think a liquid blanket is the wrong answer for your pool, we'll tell you that instead of selling you one.

Why Auckland Pool Owners Choose a Liquid Blanket

Invisible in use — nothing to see, nothing to store, nothing to ruin the look of your pool
Designed to reduce evaporation, the main route heat leaves a heated pool
Typically lowers heat pump and gas heater running hours over a season
Less evaporation means less top-up water and less chemical dilution
Automatic daily dosing — no cover to roll on, roll off, or lift
Safe to swim through; the layer re-forms after the water settles
Expert sizing to your pool's surface area, heating and exposure
Professional install and commissioning of the dosing unit, backed by manufacturer warranty
Keep the Heat In. Keep the Cover Off.

Liquid Blanket Questions, Answered

The things Auckland pool owners ask us before they commit.

When is resurfacing recommended?

Swimming pool resurfacing is usually recommended when the interior feels rough, looks stained, starts flaking, becomes chalky or no longer responds well to regular cleaning.

category
What does a pool pump do?

A pool pump moves water through the filtration system so debris can be removed and treated water can circulate back into the pool.

category
What is the difference between resurfacing and renovation?

Resurfacing renews the interior finish. Pool renovations can be broader, covering tile replacement, coping updates, plastering or other improvements around the pool.

category
How do I know if my pool pump needs replacing?

Pool pump replacement may be needed if the pump is noisy, leaking, losing prime, struggling with circulation, frequently cutting out or no longer performing reliably.

category
Is refurbishment suitable for older pools?

Yes. Pool refurbishment is often suitable when the pool structure is still sound, but the surface, tiles or finish have become dated, worn or harder to maintain.

category
Are energy efficient pool pumps worth considering?

Yes. An energy efficient pool pump may help reduce running costs and improve efficiency, especially for pools that need regular circulation throughout the year.

category
Do you work on concrete pools?

Yes. Sparkling Pools provides concrete pool refurbishment and resurfacing options for concrete swimming pools, depending on the condition of the existing interior.

category
What size pool pump do I need?

The right pool pump size depends on the pool volume, pipework, filter type and equipment setup. A pump should be matched to the whole system, not chosen by size alone.

category
What does concrete pool resurfacing involve?

Concrete pool resurfacing renews the interior of a concrete pool with a suitable finish, improving the surface, appearance and long-term usability.

category
How long does a pool pump usually last?

A pool pump can last for several years, but lifespan depends on the model, installation quality, running hours, water conditions and how well the equipment is maintained.

Full pool and spa renovation in St Mary's Bay, Auckland, including Quartzon Galaxy interior resurfacing, new tiles and copings, lighting, heat pump installation, and filtration relocation.
In November 2011, my partner and I purchased a property with a swimming pool and spa. Having never previously owned a property with pool facilities, we relied on Grant, Julia and the rest of the team at Sparkling Pools to bring us up to speed with what was required to keep the pool in order. Combined with this, some pool equipment components had been neglected by previous owners; Grant made time to come and carry out a complimentary inspection of the pool, from a holistic perspective, and to give us detailed feedback on what improvements (heating, filtration equipment, covers etc) we could make, over time, bearing our budget in mind. The pool and spa are now looked after on a regular basis by Sparkling Pools on a specific customised maintenance plan. Denis (our dedicated valet man) comes on time, on the same week-day each time, and he does a great job maintaining the pool. We love the team from Sparkling Pools and we love the service we get from them. The pool and spa always look and feel fantastic, and looking after them is one job we just never have to worry about!

A full interior renovation of a large, elegant older pool on a beautiful Kohimarama property, including new Quartzon plaster, waterline tiles, copings, and LED lighting upgrades.
Our older pool was looking incredibly worn and really needed a complete refresh to match the character of our heritage property here in New Zealand. The team completely transformed the space. The new Santorini blue plaster and updated waterline tiles breathed completely new life into the area without losing its original elegance. The upgrade to modern LED lighting means the pool looks absolutely stunning in the evenings, creating a perfect atmosphere for entertaining. The entire process was incredibly professional, and the final result perfectly complements our home.

This project comprised all the classic elements of a comprehensive pool renovation; interior resurfacing, including some engineering adjustments; renovation of tile-work; full equipment upgrades and installations; and subsequent ongoing pool maintenance contract.
Last winter, Sparkling Pools undertook the renovation of our swimming pool. Sparkling Pools did a terrific job and we were delighted with the results. SPL’s performance throughout the project was very professional. Senior management constantly checked the work at different stages and they maintained excellent communication with us throughout. We are happy to commend Sparkling Pools to other Auckland pool-owners who might be considering pool interior renovations or equipment upgrades, particularly noting their reliability, their professionalism and the obvious pride they take in their work and their products. Subsequent to the pool renovations, SPL has continued to look after our pool on a regular basis and we are very happy to have them do so. With SPL looking after our pool, it is now one aspect of property care I never have to worry about.
