From Tired to Timeless

Some pools are simply due for a refresh.

Others deserve a complete transformation.

This Kohimarama renovation was one of those projects.

The existing pool structure was in good condition, but years of use had left the interior finish looking tired and dated. The feature wall had seen better days, the old halogen lighting was no longer keeping up with modern expectations, and the equipment was ready for an upgrade.

The owners wanted a pool that matched the quality of the home surrounding it.

So we started from the ground up.

Step One: Preparing the Shell

Every successful resurfacing begins with careful preparation.

The pool was completely drained before the existing surface was inspected, any loose or drummy plaster removed, and the shell prepared for its new finish. A new hydrostatic valve was installed and the surface scratch-coated, creating the perfect foundation for the new interior.

A Fresh New Interior

The old plaster was replaced with NZ Pool Pebble in Bay of Islands, a premium New Zealand aggregate finish chosen for its durability, beautiful texture and soft natural water colour.

Unlike traditional white plaster, the pebble finish adds depth and character while providing a long-lasting surface designed to withstand New Zealand conditions.

Modernising the Details

The renovation wasn't limited to the pool interior.

The raised feature wall received a completely new tiled finish, creating a crisp architectural backdrop that ties beautifully into the home's modern design.

The original blue waterline tiles and stair accents were refreshed, giving definition to the pool while complementing the new pebble interior.

To complete the transformation, the outdated halogen lights were replaced with new Spa Electrics white LED lights, providing a brighter, cleaner look both day and night.

Smarter Pool Equipment

Behind the scenes, the pool became just as impressive as its appearance.

We reconfigured the filtration plumbing so a single pump could efficiently operate both the pool and waterfall, simplifying the system while improving efficiency.

A new Pool Controls SWC35pH chlorinator with integrated automatic pH control and ozone sanitising was installed, giving the owners a premium water treatment system that keeps the water crystal clear with minimal intervention.

The Result

As the pool filled, the transformation became obvious.

The soft blue water now perfectly complements the light pebble finish, while the clean white feature wall, crisp blue tile band and modern paving create a timeless outdoor entertaining space.

The project not only transformed the appearance of the pool but also delivered a modern, easier-to-maintain system that will provide years of reliable performance.

It's a perfect example of how thoughtful design, premium materials and meticulous workmanship can completely change the feel of an outdoor space.
