A long-running suction cleaner design
The G2 belongs to one of the most established suction cleaner designs on the market, built around a simple diaphragm mechanism with very few moving parts.
Why simplicity lasts
With no motor, no electronics and a single moving part in the drive mechanism, there is very little to go wrong. When something does wear, replacement parts are inexpensive and straightforward to fit, which is a large part of why this design has stayed in the range so long.
Debris handling
Like all suction cleaners, the G2 sends debris to your skimmer basket rather than an onboard canister. On pools with heavy leaf fall that means emptying the basket more often, and a leaf canister fitted inline is worth considering.
Surface suitability
The G2 works across common pool finishes. Tell us what your pool is finished in and how much debris it collects, and we can confirm whether the G2 or a larger cleaner is the better fit.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Zodiac G2
Answers to common questions about pool surfaces, debris and setup, so you can buy your G2 with confidence.
Because it is simple and it lasts. The G2 uses a diaphragm drive mechanism with very few moving parts, which means there is almost nothing to fail. Replacement parts are readily available. For pool owners who want the least complicated cleaner on the market, the G2 has earned its place over many years.
Water flow through the cleaner flexes a rubber diaphragm, which creates the pulsing motion that drives the unit around the pool. There are no gears, motors or electronics involved. The diaphragm itself is the main wear part and is inexpensive and straightforward to replace.
Yes. The G2 connects to your skimmer box and is powered entirely by the suction from your existing pump. It has no motor or power supply of its own. That also means it only cleans while your pump is running.
Very little. The diaphragm is a periodic replacement item, and the hose and small wear parts occasionally need attention. Compared with any cleaner containing a motor, electronics or a battery, the ongoing cost of a G2 is minimal, which is a large part of its appeal.
It will move debris through to your skimmer basket and filter, so heavy leaf loads mean frequent basket clearing. On leafy Auckland properties, pairing it with an inline leaf catcher makes a real difference by keeping bulk debris out of your skimmer and filtration entirely.
The G2 is primarily a floor cleaner with a proven random pattern design. If wall and waterline cleaning matters to you, a robotic cleaner such as the FR1000 iQ or EX6050 iQ is the category to look at. We will be straight with you about which one your pool actually needs.
It has been used successfully across the common Auckland pool interiors for many years. Very rough or deteriorating surfaces accelerate wear on any suction cleaner. If your pool interior is aging, that is worth assessing separately, since a failing surface causes problems well beyond cleaner wear.
Hose length and flow adjustment determine everything about how a G2 performs. Too much or too little of either and the cleaner will get stuck or miss areas. We set this correctly at installation, which is the single most common reason a suction cleaner underperforms.
A manufacturer backed warranty applies, with duration and conditions set by Zodiac and dependent on how the cleaner is used and the surface it operates on. Your purchase is also covered by the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act. Sparkling Pools registers the warranty and manages any claim for you.
Because we have been fitting and servicing these on Auckland pools since 1992, we carry the wear parts, and we set them up so they actually cover the pool. Simple products still need to be installed correctly. Call 09 570 4797 or email info@sparklingpools.co.nz.
