Questions About BWT ES Range Fibreglass Media Filter ES32 50mm

Answers on ES32 filtration area, plant-room space, pump matching, media choice and ongoing filter care.

How do I know what size filter my pool needs?

Filter sizing is based on your pool volume and the flow rate of your pump. An undersized filter runs at too high a face velocity, which means poorer water clarity and more frequent backwashing. An oversized one is money spent for no gain. Give us your pool dimensions and pump model and we will specify the right tank size.

category
Which ES model suits my pool?

The ES range spans six models from ES21 to ES36, with tank heights from 840 mm to 1,300 mm and filtration areas from 0.24 m2 to 0.64 m2. The right model depends on your pool volume and your pump's flow rate. Larger filtration area means slower water passage, better clarity and less frequent backwashing. Send us your pool dimensions and pump details and we will size it properly.

category
What is the advantage of a fibreglass tank?

Fibreglass tanks resist corrosion, which is the main reason older steel filters fail. In a salt chlorinated pool, and in Auckland's coastal and humid conditions, corrosion resistance is what determines whether a filter lasts five years or fifteen. Fibreglass also handles the pressure cycling of regular backwashing without fatiguing.

category
What does the 10 year tank warranty cover?

The fibreglass filter tank carries a 10 year manufacturer warranty, with fittings covered for 1 year. The tank is the part that determines whether a filter is a long term asset or a short term purchase, so a decade of cover on it is a genuine point of difference in this category. Your purchase is also covered by the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act.

category
What media does it use and how often is it replaced?

This is a media filter, which is most commonly run on filter sand or a glass media alternative. Sand generally needs replacing every five to seven years as the grains round off and lose their filtering edge. Glass media typically lasts longer. We can advise which suits your water and handle the media change for you.

category
Why does the dual-layer UV-resistant tank matter in Auckland?

Most Auckland pool plant sits outdoors, often with limited shade, and UV degradation is a real cause of filter tank failure over time. The dual layer fibreglass reinforced UV resistant construction is built for exactly that exposure. It also holds up well against salt chlorinated water, which covers most local pools.

category
How often should I backwash?

Backwash when the pressure gauge reads around 8 to 10 psi above the clean starting pressure, not on a fixed schedule. Backwashing too often wastes water and flushes out the fine debris layer that actually improves filtration. We record clean pressure at commissioning so you have a reference point.

category
What is the backwash sight glass for?

The inline sight glass lets you see the water running through during a backwash, so you stop when it runs clear rather than guessing. That saves water, saves chemicals and avoids the two most common mistakes: stopping too early and leaving debris in the media, or running far longer than needed.

category
Why is it called a top mount filter?

The multiport valve sits on top of the tank rather than on the side. Top mount is the most common configuration on Auckland residential pools, is generally more compact in a tight plant area, and is straightforward to service. If your existing filter is a side mount, the plumbing will need adapting, which we assess during the quote.

category
How often will I need to backwash?

Backwash when the integrated pressure gauge reads roughly 8 to 10 psi above the clean starting pressure. In an Auckland summer with regular use, that is often every two to four weeks, and more frequently through heavy leaf fall in autumn. We note the clean baseline pressure at commissioning so you have a clear reference.

Beautiful pool renovation from Seb, Ben and the team at Sparkling Pools. When we became excited about doing additional work (retiling the whole area and relaying turf) they accommodated that and helped project manage the timing and additional contractors on site. They worked to time and to budget and the result is outstanding. Definitely a sparkling pool!! Thanks so much, we are very happy.

Full pool and spa renovation in St Mary's Bay, Auckland, including Quartzon Galaxy interior resurfacing, new tiles and copings, lighting, heat pump installation, and filtration relocation.
In November 2011, my partner and I purchased a property with a swimming pool and spa. Having never previously owned a property with pool facilities, we relied on Grant, Julia and the rest of the team at Sparkling Pools to bring us up to speed with what was required to keep the pool in order. Combined with this, some pool equipment components had been neglected by previous owners; Grant made time to come and carry out a complimentary inspection of the pool, from a holistic perspective, and to give us detailed feedback on what improvements (heating, filtration equipment, covers etc) we could make, over time, bearing our budget in mind. The pool and spa are now looked after on a regular basis by Sparkling Pools on a specific customised maintenance plan. Denis (our dedicated valet man) comes on time, on the same week-day each time, and he does a great job maintaining the pool. We love the team from Sparkling Pools and we love the service we get from them. The pool and spa always look and feel fantastic, and looking after them is one job we just never have to worry about!

A full interior renovation of a large, elegant older pool on a beautiful Kohimarama property, including new Quartzon plaster, waterline tiles, copings, and LED lighting upgrades.
Our older pool was looking incredibly worn and really needed a complete refresh to match the character of our heritage property here in New Zealand. The team completely transformed the space. The new Santorini blue plaster and updated waterline tiles breathed completely new life into the area without losing its original elegance. The upgrade to modern LED lighting means the pool looks absolutely stunning in the evenings, creating a perfect atmosphere for entertaining. The entire process was incredibly professional, and the final result perfectly complements our home.

This project comprised all the classic elements of a comprehensive pool renovation; interior resurfacing, including some engineering adjustments; renovation of tile-work; full equipment upgrades and installations; and subsequent ongoing pool maintenance contract.
Last winter, Sparkling Pools undertook the renovation of our swimming pool. Sparkling Pools did a terrific job and we were delighted with the results. SPL’s performance throughout the project was very professional. Senior management constantly checked the work at different stages and they maintained excellent communication with us throughout. We are happy to commend Sparkling Pools to other Auckland pool-owners who might be considering pool interior renovations or equipment upgrades, particularly noting their reliability, their professionalism and the obvious pride they take in their work and their products. Subsequent to the pool renovations, SPL has continued to look after our pool on a regular basis and we are very happy to have them do so. With SPL looking after our pool, it is now one aspect of property care I never have to worry about.
