There is a small pressure loss through any inline device, which is normal. In practice the effect is far outweighed by keeping the skimmer basket clear, since a half full skimmer basket restricts flow far more than the leaf catcher does. Net effect on most pools is better cleaner performance, not worse.

No. Robotic cleaners collect debris in their own onboard canister and do not connect to your skimmer, so a leaf catcher has no role. If you already have a robotic cleaner, you already have the benefit that a leaf catcher provides to suction cleaner owners.

Empty the canister when it fills, rinse it out, and check the seals and lid occasionally. If you notice reduced flow, check the leaf catcher first because a packed canister will restrict the system just as a full skimmer basket would.
