Product Details

The Zodiac EL25 is a salt chlorinator that generates chlorine from lightly salted pool water, giving steadier sanitisation than hand dosing and water that is gentler on skin and eyes.

It is the entry point of the EL range and suits small to mid-sized residential pools. For larger pools the EL35 provides greater output, and our team can confirm which model matches your pool volume before you commit.

Warranty Info

The Zodiac EL25 is covered by a manufacturer-backed warranty. Duration, terms and conditions are set by the manufacturer, and cells are generally covered separately from the power supply.

Sparkling Pools can assist with warranty registration and act as your local point of contact if a fault arises, arranging assessment and coordinating the claim with the supplier.

Salt chlorination for small to mid-sized pools

A salt chlorinator produces chlorine on demand by passing a low current through lightly salted pool water. The chlorine it makes is the same sanitiser you would otherwise add by hand, but it is generated continuously and consistently rather than in doses, which tends to give steadier water and a softer feel to swim in.

Where the EL25 fits

The EL25 is the smaller of the two models in the EL range, suited to compact and mid-sized residential pools. Where your pool sits above that, the EL35 offers greater output and is usually the more sensible choice, since a chlorinator running at full capacity all day will wear its cell faster.

Looking after the cell

The cell is the consumable part of any salt chlorinator, and its life depends mostly on water balance. Keeping calcium hardness and pH in range, and avoiding running the unit harder than it needs to, both extend how long a cell lasts. Sparkling Pools can check cell condition as part of a regular service visit.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Zodiac EL25 Chlorinator

Answers to common questions about pool sizing, salt levels and cell life, so you can choose the right chlorinator with confidence.

What size pool does the EL25 suit?

The EL25 (product code WW000264) is built for small and mid-sized residential pools. If your pool is larger, heavily used, or sits in full sun where chlorine demand runs high, the EL35 is the better choice. Undersizing a chlorinator means running it for excessive hours and still struggling to hold chlorine in midsummer. We will size it against your pool volume and usage.

category
How does salt chlorination actually work?

Salt is dissolved in your pool water, and the chlorinator cell passes a current through it to convert the salt into chlorine. That chlorine sanitises the pool, then reverts to salt, and the cycle repeats. You are not swimming in salt water at seawater strength, and you are not handling drums of liquid chlorine each week.

category
How long does the cell last?

Cell life depends heavily on water balance and run hours. Cells are consumable items and are replaceable rather than requiring a whole new unit. High calcium hardness, unbalanced pH and excessive run time all shorten cell life. Our service customers get water balance managed properly, which is the single biggest factor in how many seasons a cell delivers.

category
How many hours a day should it run?

Enough to produce the chlorine your pool consumes, which changes with weather and bather load. In an Auckland summer that is typically longer than in winter, and after a party or a heavy rain event you may need to increase it temporarily. We set run times at commissioning and adjust them seasonally for pools on our service programme.

category
How much salt does the pool need?

Salt level needs to sit within the range the chlorinator requires, and both too little and too much cause problems. Too little means poor chlorine production and cell strain, too much can be corrosive to some surfaces and fittings. We test and correct salt levels as part of servicing so the unit runs in its proper window.

category
Will salt water damage my pool or equipment?

At correct levels, no. Problems come from unbalanced water rather than from salt itself. Aggressive water attacks plaster, tile grout and metal fittings whether or not the pool is salt chlorinated. Keeping pH, alkalinity and calcium hardness in range protects both your pool surface and your equipment.

category
Can I install it myself?

No. A chlorinator is hardwired 240V equipment and must be connected by a registered electrician in New Zealand. Sparkling Pools has a qualified electrician on the team, so supply, plumbing into the return line, electrical connection and commissioning happen in one visit under one quote.

category
How does the EL25 compare with the EL35?

Same technology, different output. The EL35 (WW000265) produces more chlorine per hour, which suits larger or more heavily used pools. The EL25 is the more economical choice where the pool volume genuinely suits it. Buying the EL25 for a pool that needs an EL35 is a false economy, and we will tell you which one your pool needs.

category
What warranty applies?

The EL25 carries a manufacturer backed warranty, with duration and conditions set by Zodiac. Note that cells are generally covered separately from the power supply, which is normal across the category since cells are consumable. Your purchase is also covered by the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act. We register the warranty and manage claims for you.

category
Why buy a chlorinator from Sparkling Pools?

Chlorinator performance depends almost entirely on correct sizing, correct salt level and balanced water, none of which come in the box. We have serviced Auckland pools since 1992, we size the unit properly, install it with a qualified electrician, and can keep the water right for you afterwards. Call 09 570 4797.

A complete swimming pool renovation featuring a premium aggregate resurfacing, new glass mosaic waterline tiles, and a fully retiled outdoor entertaining area, transforming a tired pool into a stunning backyard centrepiece.
Beautiful pool renovation from Seb, Ben and the team at Sparkling Pools. When we became excited about doing additional work (retiling the whole area and relaying turf) they accommodated that and helped project manage the timing and additional contractors on site. They worked to time and to budget and the result is outstanding. Definitely a sparkling pool!! Thanks so much, we are very happy.

Full pool and spa renovation in St Mary's Bay, Auckland, including Quartzon Galaxy interior resurfacing, new tiles and copings, lighting, heat pump installation, and filtration relocation.
In November 2011, my partner and I purchased a property with a swimming pool and spa. Having never previously owned a property with pool facilities, we relied on Grant, Julia and the rest of the team at Sparkling Pools to bring us up to speed with what was required to keep the pool in order. Combined with this, some pool equipment components had been neglected by previous owners; Grant made time to come and carry out a complimentary inspection of the pool, from a holistic perspective, and to give us detailed feedback on what improvements (heating, filtration equipment, covers etc) we could make, over time, bearing our budget in mind. The pool and spa are now looked after on a regular basis by Sparkling Pools on a specific customised maintenance plan. Denis (our dedicated valet man) comes on time, on the same week-day each time, and he does a great job maintaining the pool. We love the team from Sparkling Pools and we love the service we get from them. The pool and spa always look and feel fantastic, and looking after them is one job we just never have to worry about!

A full interior renovation of a large, elegant older pool on a beautiful Kohimarama property, including new Quartzon plaster, waterline tiles, copings, and LED lighting upgrades.
Our older pool was looking incredibly worn and really needed a complete refresh to match the character of our heritage property here in New Zealand. The team completely transformed the space. The new Santorini blue plaster and updated waterline tiles breathed completely new life into the area without losing its original elegance. The upgrade to modern LED lighting means the pool looks absolutely stunning in the evenings, creating a perfect atmosphere for entertaining. The entire process was incredibly professional, and the final result perfectly complements our home.

This project comprised all the classic elements of a comprehensive pool renovation; interior resurfacing, including some engineering adjustments; renovation of tile-work; full equipment upgrades and installations; and subsequent ongoing pool maintenance contract.
Last winter, Sparkling Pools undertook the renovation of our swimming pool. Sparkling Pools did a terrific job and we were delighted with the results. SPL’s performance throughout the project was very professional. Senior management constantly checked the work at different stages and they maintained excellent communication with us throughout. We are happy to commend Sparkling Pools to other Auckland pool-owners who might be considering pool interior renovations or equipment upgrades, particularly noting their reliability, their professionalism and the obvious pride they take in their work and their products. Subsequent to the pool renovations, SPL has continued to look after our pool on a regular basis and we are very happy to have them do so. With SPL looking after our pool, it is now one aspect of property care I never have to worry about.
