Almost no pool in Westmere was built with the house. They went in later, into back sections behind villas and bungalows, which means they were fitted around existing constraints rather than planned from open ground. That shows up in a few consistent ways: plant tucked into whatever space was available, plumbing routed the long way round, and access down a side path that a wheelbarrow only just fits along.
For routine servicing none of that matters much. For renovation it matters enormously, and it is the reason we would rather walk a Westmere site before quoting than give a number over the phone. Coxs Bay and the Meola Reef bring the second factor. Westmere is close enough to the harbour for salt to reach equipment and fittings, and the suburb's mature street planting drops heavily through autumn. Pools on the streets running down towards the water tend to sit lower, which can mean groundwater to consider if a pool ever needs draining.
The renovation rate here is high, and pools are increasingly being upgraded as part of a wider house project. If that is on the cards, bringing the pool work into the same programme almost always saves money on access, staging and reinstatement.
