Original Equipment Reaching the End of Its Run

Schnapper Rock pools are mostly twenty to thirty years old, which is exactly the point where the original equipment package starts to fail in sequence. The chlorinator cell goes first, usually somewhere between five and eight years, and gets replaced. The pump goes next. The heater, if there is one, tends to be last. By the time an owner is on their third or fourth individual replacement, the components rarely suit each other.

That mismatch is the most common thing we correct here. A high output chlorinator paired with an undersized pump will not generate what it is rated to generate, because the cell needs flow. A variable speed pump set to a speed that saves power but does not achieve turnover leaves the filter doing very little useful work. Individually every component tests fine. Together they underperform.

The interiors are on a similar timeline. A well maintained plaster or pebble interior from the late 1990s is generally getting close to needing attention now, and the early signs are subtle: slight roughness underfoot, harder to brush clean, a chalky feel on the walls. It is far cheaper to plan a resurface than to react to one.
