Flat Sections and Retrofitted Pools

Royal Oak's flat topography is its main advantage for pool work. No terracing, no retaining, no plant sitting two levels below the water, and side access on most bungalow sections that is at least workable. Renovation here costs less than it does a few hundred metres away in Hillsborough or Mt Eden for exactly that reason.

The pools are almost all retrofitted into bungalow back sections rather than built with the house, generally from the 1970s onward. That means plumbing was routed around existing structures and plant went wherever there was room, so original layouts are often less logical than they would be on a purpose designed site.

Medium sections with established but not enormous planting means a moderate debris load, and the flat, open aspect gives most of these pools good sun. Warm, well lit water uses sanitiser faster, so run times and stabiliser matter through summer.
