Red Beach and Stanmore Bay are where most of the Hibiscus Coast's everyday family pools are. Neither is a holiday enclave in the way the outer peninsula bays are, so these pools are used regularly through the season by households rather than sitting idle for months. That is better for the water and it means the problems are ordinary ones: ageing plant, tired interiors and filtration that has not kept pace with how the pool is used.
The pools are mostly from the 1970s through to the 1990s, and the recurring issue is a system where each component has been replaced at a different time by a different person. A high output chlorinator paired with an undersized pump will not produce what it is rated for, because the cell needs flow to work. Each part tests fine, the system underperforms.
Being on the peninsula, salt reaches everything regardless of which street you are on, and it shortens the working life of rails, ladders, light housings and equipment casings.
