Holiday Pools and the Cost of Doing Nothing

Point Wells has one dominant pool care pattern: the pool is used hard for six weeks and then left completely alone for nine months. It is entirely understandable and it is also the most expensive way to own a pool. Water left standing with a pump on a token cycle stratifies, the sanitiser residual disappears within weeks, and by spring the pool needs draining, cleaning and refilling rather than simply switching back on.

A modest year round service keeps that from happening. The pool stays balanced, the equipment keeps running, and it is swimmable the day you arrive rather than three weeks after you get there. For anyone letting the property out, that difference is the whole point: nobody books a house with a pool and expects to be told it is not usable.

Being on the Whangateau Harbour rather than the open coast gives Point Wells some shelter, which helps, but the salt is still there and the estuary brings its own fine sediment on a wind. Tank water is standard here, which means soft, low calcium top up water that will gradually work on a plaster interior if it is never corrected.
