Point Chevalier is putting in more new pools than almost anywhere else in central Auckland, because the renovation wave here is running at full tilt. What that produces is an unusual mix: brand new pools sitting in bungalow back sections that were never designed around them, with plant tucked wherever it fits and access down a side path that predates the car.
New pool, old constraints. The pool is in excellent condition, the water care routine is usually undercooked because the owners have never had a pool before, and any future work is limited by the same narrow access that made the original build expensive.
The peninsula setting adds salt from both sides, and the ground here is soft and shelly in places, closer to the mangroves and the reef. Low lying properties towards the water need groundwater considered before anything is drained.
