Pakuranga has some of the oldest surviving domestic pools in East Auckland. A good number went in during the late 1960s and 1970s, which means they are on original or second interiors, with plumbing that has been patched repeatedly and plant that has been replaced component by component over five decades.
The important question with a pool this age is whether the shell is sound, because that determines everything else. A sound shell with a rough, discoloured interior is cosmetic and entirely fixable, and resurfacing plus new plant will cost a fraction of a replacement. Structural cracking or persistent unexplained water loss is a different conversation and worth having honestly before anyone spends money.
Flat sections and generally good vehicle access make renovation work here more affordable than in the terraced eastern bays, which is worth knowing if you have been putting the job off.
