Orchard Country on the Bush Edge
These two valleys sit right where the orchards and lifestyle blocks meet the Waitākere bush, and pools here get the load from both. Bush cover contributes continuous fine organic debris and tannin. Orchards and shelter belts contribute pollen in spring, spray drift in season and leaf through autumn. It adds up to a debris load well beyond what a standard filtration schedule assumes.
The consequence is usually phosphate driven algae. A pool here can hold a perfectly good chlorine reading and still go green, because the organic load is feeding the water faster than sanitiser can oxidise it. Testing for phosphate rather than just chlorine and pH is worth doing on any property near bush or orchard.
Water source is the other constant. Tank water is soft and slightly acidic and will erode plaster over years. Bore water can carry iron and will stain on contact with chlorine. Both need testing rather than assuming.
