Opaheke sits at the point where suburban Papakura becomes rural south Auckland, and the pools reflect it. On the town side you get standard suburban pools on town supply. Move a few hundred metres east and you are into lifestyle blocks on tank or bore water with pools two or three times the volume. The service a pool needs is completely different on either side of that line, even though the addresses are minutes apart.
For the rural side, the first thing to establish is always the fill source. Bore water carrying iron will stain an interior the first time it is chlorinated. Tank water, being soft and slightly acidic, does the opposite kind of damage more slowly, drawing calcium out of the surface over years. A pool topped up from an untested source is the most common avoidable problem we deal with out here.
The newer subdivision pools have a different issue entirely. They are in good condition but the routine around them has usually never been set properly, and the ground around them is often still settling. Paving and coping laid on recently worked ground will move in the first few years, and that movement can open up joints that let water in behind the shell.
