Sloping Sections and a Sheltered Bay

Murrays Bay sits in a natural hollow, which makes the beach unusually sheltered and the pools behind it warmer than those in the exposed bays either side. Warmer water is pleasant to swim in and harder to keep balanced, because sanitiser burns off faster and algae establishes more readily in a pool that holds heat into the evening.

The sections fall towards the water, so pools are typically set on a levelled terrace with retaining behind them. Plant tends to sit tucked under a deck or beside the retaining wall, which is convenient until it needs replacing. Confined plant spaces also hold moisture, and damp is what corrodes fittings and shortens the life of a chlorinator.

Being one of the more established bays, a good share of pools here are approaching or past thirty years old. The shells are generally sound, so a resurface with new plant almost always makes better sense than replacement.
