What Milford Pools Deal With Through the Year

Milford's pool stock splits fairly cleanly in two. On the older streets you find in-ground concrete pools built in the 1980s and 1990s, many now on their second or third interior, often with equipment that has been added to piecemeal over three decades. On the redeveloped sites you find smaller, newer pools built tight to the house, usually fibreglass, usually with variable speed pumps and automation from day one. The two need quite different attention.

Being one street back from an east facing beach matters more than people expect. Salt carried on an easterly settles on coping, handrails, ladders and light fittings, and it works its way into equipment housings sitting in exposed plant areas. Norfolk pines and pohutukawa along the reserve drop steadily through summer, which is exactly when the pool is in use. Skimmer baskets fill faster here than they do inland.

Across the North Shore pools we service, mineral sanitiser has quietly overtaken straight salt, usually paired with a Hayward chlorinator and glass media in the filter. It makes for softer water and it suits families, but it does need the mineral level checked properly rather than assumed. That is part of a standard valet visit for us, not an extra.
