New Pools on an Exposed Coast
Long Bay pools are new, small and in one of the windiest spots on the Shore. The exposure is the part owners underestimate. Sitting on open ground above the coast with very little mature planting means constant wind across the water surface, which drives evaporation hard. A pool dropping 25 to 30mm in a windy week here is normal, and every top up shifts the chemistry.
Small volume compounds it. Most pools here are under 25,000 litres, so a top up is a significant proportion of the total water and the balance moves noticeably each time.
The other Long Bay pattern is first time ownership. These pools came with the house, the handover was brief, and the automation makes it look like the system is managing itself. It is not. A variable speed pump set below effective turnover speed will report as running normally while the filter does very little useful work.
