Basalt Underneath, Big Trees Above

The two things Greenlane and One Tree Hill share are what sit above and below the pools. Below is Maungakiekie's basalt, which runs shallow under a lot of these streets. Pools cut into it decades ago were built around rock rather than through it, so plumbing takes odd routes, excavation for new work can hit rock at surprisingly shallow depth, and tracing a leak is harder than it is on clay.

Above is Cornwall Park's mature exotic planting and the equally mature oaks, planes and olives on the surrounding sections. Autumn here is genuinely heavy work, and it runs late. A single windy night will fill a skimmer completely.

Greenlane sits slightly closer to the motorway and the hospital precinct with more medium sized sections, while One Tree Hill has larger, more heavily planted properties. Both have pools old enough that shell condition is worth assessing properly before any resurface is quoted.
