Restoring a Classic Pool

Not every renovation is about creating something completely new. Sometimes, it's about preserving the character of a pool while giving it a new lease on life.

This residential pool had served its owners well for many years, but the interior finish had reached the end of its life. The plaster was worn and stained, the skimmer needed replacing, and the coping stones and waterline tiles were ready for a refresh. The goal was to restore the pool's beauty while retaining its timeless design and unique decorative water feature wall.

Stripping It Back

The renovation began by completely draining the pool and removing the ageing plaster finish. With the shell exposed, we inspected the underlying structure, prepared the surface, installed a new hydrostatic valve and replaced the ageing skimmer before applying a fresh scratch coat to create the perfect foundation for the new interior.

A Fresh New Finish

The pool was resurfaced with NZ Pool Pebble in Piha Sands, a premium aggregate finish that delivers a soft, natural water colour while offering exceptional durability and longevity.

The new finish instantly brightened the pool, creating crystal-clear water with a clean, modern appearance while remaining sympathetic to the original design.

Finishing Touches

To complete the renovation, the waterline tiles and pool copings were replaced, giving the pool crisp new edges and a refined finish. New Spa Electrics LED lights were also installed, improving both efficiency and the pool's evening ambience. Throughout the renovation, the decorative wall features were carefully preserved, maintaining the unique character that makes this pool so distinctive.

The Result

Today, the pool looks completely rejuvenated. The elegant Piha Sands interior, new coping, refreshed waterline tiles and sparkling water have transformed the space while respecting the home's original style.
